A 70-year-old man who worked as a ride-hailing driver was robbed and stabbed on 2nd Street between 33rd and 35th Streets in the Salvador Alvarado Sur neighborhood of Mérida.
According to witnesses, a couple, a man and a woman, robbed the driver of a Suzuki Swift, but he fought back and struggled with them, sustaining multiple stab wounds to the abdomen.
Neighbors who heard the commotion and went outside to see what was happening found the driver injured and bleeding.
The assailants tried to flee, but a patrol car from the South Sector of the Public Security Secretariat (SSP), which was nearby, launched an operation and apprehended the couple.
Paramedics from the Public Security Secretariat (SSP) treated the injured man and transported him to a hospital for medical evaluation.
Elements of the State Investigation Police (PEI) cordoned off the area and are conducting the corresponding investigations.
