Mexicans spend up to 30 million pesos in Monclova during their time in the region

The arrival and transit of Mexican nationals from the United States during the Christmas season has generated a significant economic boost in Monclova and the Central Region, estimated at around 30 million pesos, just during the peak days.

This was announced by Armando de la Garza, a prominent figure in the Monclova Chamber of Commerce (CANACO) and the Coahuila Hotel and Lodging Association, who explained that between December 20 and 23, approximately 7,000 vehicles passed through the city, representing the same number of families who stopped over or traveled through on their way home.

The representative of the tourism sector in Coahuila detailed that, on average, each family spends close to 3,000 pesos on items such as fuel, food, lodging, and general services, which, when calculated overall, results in a multi-million peso economic impact that is primarily concentrated in gas stations, restaurants, hotels, and convenience stores. He specified that approximately 50 percent of this revenue directly impacts the food and hospitality sectors, while the remainder is distributed among gasoline, convenience stores, and other services, such as tips, directly benefiting the local economy.

De la Garza highlighted that hotels in Monclova reached up to 80 percent occupancy for at least two consecutive days, particularly on December 20 and 21, extending partially into the 22nd, reflecting the city’s consolidation as a strategic vacation destination for Mexican nationals returning from abroad.

He indicated that starting this week, the flow began to decrease considerably, as most of the returning nationals have already reached their destinations, with only a few straggling travelers continuing their journey. The return flow is expected to begin on December 26 and 27 and will extend into the first days of January.
