The Mexican Federal Government declared the expropriation of several properties in the states of Campeche, Yucatán, and Quintana Roo to facilitate the construction of the Maya Train freight rail line.
The official decrees, published on December 29 in the Official Gazette of the Federation, transfer 5.03 hectares of land to the company Tren Maya, S.A. de C.V., declaring them to be of public utility for the railway project.
The expropriated lands primarily comprise communal, agricultural, and grazing lands in ejidos (communal landholdings) in Quintana Roo, Yucatán, and Campeche.
The main objective of these new expropriations is to consolidate the development and operation of the Maya Train, declared a strategic project for connectivity and economic development in southeastern Mexico.
The affected areas encompass diverse land uses, allowing for the reinforcement of infrastructure and ensuring the continuity of the railway line.

The Maya Train freight service is designed to transport goods, industrial supplies, and agricultural products throughout the Yucatán Peninsula.
The freight service is planned to boost logistical and commercial development in the region, facilitating the export and distribution of products in both the national and international markets.
The freight train aims to reduce costs and travel times compared to other modes of transportation, as well as reduce the environmental footprint by offering a more sustainable alternative.
The freight stations and terminals will be strategically located near industrial parks, agricultural areas, and seaports to optimize logistics and trade.
