Human remains, along with a banner bearing a drug-related message, were found early Sunday morning near the Playa del Carmen-Tulum highway, specifically close to the community of Vida y Esperanza.
Around 1:00 a.m., residents of the area alerted authorities to the discovery of a head and other body parts inside a black bag.
Following the report, security forces launched an operation that extended from the federal highway to the vicinity of the Maya Train construction site. Moments later, they confirmed the location and cordoned off the area, where they found the bags containing the remains and the banner with a message.
Forensic experts from the State Attorney General’s Office processed the scene and transported the remains to the Forensic Medical Service. It is currently unknown whether the remains belong to one or more individuals, as well as their identities.
