Maximum prices for liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in Baja California Sur began January 2026 with rates exceeding 22 pesos per kilogram in some municipalities, according to the official list from the National Energy Commission (CNE) for the week of January 4-10.

A comparison with the same periods in January 2024 and 2025 confirms that, although some municipalities saw a slight decrease compared to last year, the cost of gas in Baja California Sur remains above the national average.

In January 2026, the maximum price per kilogram in La Paz was 21.79 pesos, with a cost per liter of 11.77 pesos.

In Comondú, the price per kilogram reached 22.67 pesos and the price per liter reached 12.24 pesos.

In Los Cabos, the price was 22.48 pesos per kilogram and 12.14 pesos per liter.

In Loreto and Mulegé, the maximum authorized price was 22.53 pesos per kilogram and 12.17 pesos per liter.

Reviewing the trends of the last three years, it can be seen that in January 2024 the price per kilogram was 21.77 pesos in La Paz and Comondú, 22.13 pesos in Los Cabos, and 22.19 pesos in Loreto and Mulegé.

By January 2025, rates had increased in all municipalities, reaching 22.67 pesos in La Paz, 22.64 pesos in Comondú, 23.01 pesos in Los Cabos, and 23.15 pesos in Loreto and Mulegé.

By 2026, La Paz and Los Cabos saw a moderate decrease, while Comondú experienced a slight increase, reflecting uneven performance in the regional market, although rates did not return to the levels observed in 2024.

The impact on household budgets is most evident when calculating the cost of the most common domestic water tanks.

In January 2026, filling a 30-kilogram tank cost approximately 653.70 pesos in La Paz, 680.10 pesos in Comondú, 674.40 pesos in Los Cabos, and 675.90 pesos in Loreto and Mulegé.

For 45-kilogram tanks, the cost was 980.55 pesos in La Paz, 1,020.15 pesos in Comondú, 1,011.60 pesos in Los Cabos, and 1,013.85 pesos in both Loreto and Mulegé.

The same CNE report indicates that in states like Baja California, prices per kilogram are around 19 pesos, meaning that consumers in Baja California Sur pay between two and three pesos more per kilogram of LP gas.

The analysis of the national document, which includes the country’s 2,400 municipalities, reveals that no municipality has a price per kilogram higher than those recorded in Baja California Sur.

In the rest of the country, the highest prices identified are below 21.10 pesos per kilogram, even in geographically dispersed regions like Durango, Chihuahua, or the mountainous areas of Jalisco, where the maximum prices range between 20.50 and 21.03 pesos per kilogram.
