Members of Section 22 of the SNTE (National Union of Education Workers) and social organizations from Oaxaca marched in the state capital to show solidarity with Venezuela following the U.S. invasion and the removal of President Nicolás Maduro.

“Our solidarity with the Venezuelan people is neither uncritical nor dogmatic; it is a class solidarity, from people to people, based on the defense of sovereignty, social justice, and human dignity,” explained the Oaxacan teachers.

The march began at the Fuente de las Ocho Regiones (Fountain of the Eight Regions) and proceeded to the Zócalo (main square) of Oaxaca City around 5:00 p.m. this afternoon.

Section 22 of the SNTE reported that the march aims to strengthen the unity of Latin American peoples, promote solidarity among education workers, defend public education as a social right and not a commodity, and keep grassroots organizing alive as a fundamental tool of resistance.

“We reiterate that the struggle of the Venezuelan people is part of the historical struggle of the peoples of Latin America against imperialism, neoliberalism and all forms of domination,” he asserted.
