In just two days, the federal government published the first and second notices of a new declaration of public utility for a new area of land that will be incorporated into the Maya Train project in Quintana Roo, Yucatán, and Campeche.

This time, the area comprises 48,661.703 square meters, corresponding to 14 privately owned properties, in the municipalities of Candelaria, Champotón, and Campeche; Tenosique in Tabasco; Umán in Yucatán; and Othón P. Blanco, Puerto Morelos, Solidaridad, Tulum, and Felipe Carrillo Puerto in Quintana Roo.

In Quintana Roo, the land to be expropriated totals 2,492 square meters, according to the notice signed by the head of the Ministry of Agrarian, Territorial, and Urban Development, Edna Elena Vega Rangel, in the Official Gazette of the Federation.

The notice establishes a 15-day period to “present to the Legal Affairs Unit of the Ministry of Agrarian, Territorial, and Urban Development any arguments they deem relevant and submit any evidence they consider pertinent.”

Just last December 15, 2025, on the second anniversary of the Maya Train, another land expropriation decree was published in the Official Gazette of the Federation (DOF) for sections 1, 3, 5, 6, and 7 of the railway circuit.

The area involved on that occasion was 44,447.31 square meters (m²), divided into 26 privately owned properties located in the municipalities of Palenque in the state of Chiapas; Candelaria and Calakmul in the state of Campeche; Mérida and Izamal in the state of Yucatán; and Solidaridad, Othón P. Blanco, and Bacalar in the state of Quintana Roo.

The decree establishes that if the real estate subject to the declaration of expropriation is not used totally or partially for the purpose that gave rise to the respective declaration, at the end of five years, the affected owners may request from the authority that processed the file, the total or partial reversion of the property in question.
