The local president of the National Chamber of the Restaurant and Seasoned Food Industry, Claudia González Góngora, reported that sales in the sector were lower than the previous year during the holiday season, a trend that continued throughout 2025.
She explained that while consumption increased during the Christmas and New Year’s holiday period, when domestic tourism typically intensifies in the state, it wasn’t enough to be considered encouraging.
González Góngora indicated that the lack of diners in establishments reflects the current state of the local and national economy, a trend she expects to continue into the new year.

To cope with low consumption and new state and federal taxes, she acknowledged that restaurants will experience stagnant growth and face the possibility of job losses.
Currently, the restaurant industry in Yucatán generates more than 15,000 jobs, but the coming months are expected to bring low sales due to the post-holiday slump.
The businesswoman stated that the sector will try to maintain menu prices as much as possible to avoid exacerbating the situation caused by the low number of diners.
