Members of the National Collective No More Innocent Prisoners demonstrated in front of the Puebla State Congress to denounce the alleged fabrication of crimes by state authorities and demand a review of cases of people deprived of their liberty who were allegedly accused without legal basis.

On Wednesday morning, members of the organization asserted that in the last three years, between 30 and 50 investigation files have been irregularly compiled, resulting in arrests and legal proceedings without sufficient evidence.

They indicated that at least 30 people are currently imprisoned under these conditions, and therefore demanded an immediate review of their cases and their release, insisting that they are innocent.

Likewise, relatives of those detained complained that due process had not been guaranteed and requested the direct intervention of judges to analyze each case. They also asked that the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE) thoroughly investigate the complaints and clarify the alleged irregularities.

The group, made up of around 20 people, was led by Dolores Deaquino, who demanded justice for the detention of her relative, Julián Ávila Salazar. She stated that he was sentenced “without evidence” to more than 10 years in prison for the crime of aggravated robbery, one of the cases that the group considers irregular.

The demonstration took place during the appearance of the state attorney general, Idamis Pastor Betancourt, before the local Congress. Around noon, the group decided to close the vehicular passage on the Ignacio Zaragoza road, heading towards Los Fuertes de Loreto, as a pressure tactic.

Integrantes del colectivo aseguraron que se han integrado de manera irregular entre 30 y 50 carpetas de investigación
