The Director of Rural Development for Zihuatanejo, José Isabel Carrillo Infante, reported two suspected cases of screwworm infestation in the community of La Parota.

He stated that a certified technician from the National Service for Agrifood Health, Safety and Quality (Senasica) took samples, which led to the implementation of protocols to train livestock farmers on animal care. This includes advising them not to injure or cut horns, to treat wounds, and to notify the authorities if larvae are observed.

Carrillo Infante mentioned that Senasica has not yet officially released the results to confirm or rule out the two cases in La Parota. However, he urged farmers to closely monitor their animals and report any abnormalities immediately to the authorities.
