The Oaxaca State Attorney General’s Office (FGEO) arrested seven municipal police officers from San Miguel Panixtlahuaca accused of the alleged aggravated homicide of a 10-year-old boy, who was killed in a shooting.

In a statement, the Attorney General’s Office reported that a multidisciplinary team, coordinated by the Regional Deputy Attorney General’s Office for the Coast, is investigating the events that occurred on January 18, 2026.

On that day, the boy was near the soccer field in the Guadalupe neighborhood of San Miguel Panixtlahuaca.

Witnesses stated that municipal police officers arrived at the scene and that, upon seeing them, the victim and those with him tried to flee, but were pursued, and minutes later gunshots were heard.

The following morning, the boy’s lifeless body was found on the banks of the river near the Cristo Rey neighborhood.

Following this discovery, municipal authorities notified the Oaxaca State Attorney General’s Office, which opened an investigation into the crime of aggravated homicide and carried out the corresponding investigative and forensic work.

The seven municipal police officers allegedly involved were arrested, and the investigation continues.

The Oaxaca State Human Rights Ombudsman’s Office (DDHPO) also reported that its Puerto Escondido Regional Office opened case file DDHPO/CA/001/RC/(11)/OAX/2026.

The organization expressed its concern about the context of violence in the town, given that it violates the best interests of children and adolescents, which must be a priority for the State, both in guaranteeing the full exercise of their rights and in protecting them, since this event could leave this sector vulnerable.

The Oaxaca State Human Rights Ombudsman called on the Mayor of San Miguel Panixtlahuaca to cooperate with the Oaxaca State Attorney General’s Office (FGEO) so that the necessary procedures can be carried out to properly clarify the facts from a human rights and child protection perspective.

Meanwhile, the boy’s family demanded justice and severe punishment for the police officers who took his life.
