Four women and two children nearly froze to death after becoming stranded on a mountain road in Chihuahua. A snowstorm completely covered the road connecting Parral with Guadalupe y Calvo, forcing an urgent response from the State Police.

The incident occurred on the morning of Saturday, January 24, on a mountainous stretch of road where weather conditions severely hampered traffic. The vehicle was stuck on the side of the road, unable to move forward, exposing its occupants to a high risk of hypothermia due to the intense cold and constant snowfall.

Officers from the State Public Security Secretariat’s (SSPE) Deployment Police, who were conducting preventive patrols as part of the winter operation, spotted the stranded vehicle and immediately went to assist the people.

The officers initially pushed the pickup truck out of the accumulated snow and then towed it to a safer location, where it no longer posed a danger to its occupants or other motorists in the area.

Four women and two minors were traveling in the vehicle and were assessed at the scene by the state police officers. After the examination, it was confirmed that none of them had injuries or health complications, despite the time they had spent exposed to the low temperatures.

Once the rescue was complete, the six people were taken by the State Police to a nearby municipality to ensure their safety and prevent them from continuing their journey in adverse weather conditions.

The State Public Security Secretariat reported that this rescue is part of the ongoing operations throughout the winter season in various regions of Chihuahua. State authorities indicated via social media that surveillance and support for the public are ongoing in response to the extreme weather conditions.

The winter storm that caused this incident has also brought snowfall to other parts of the state, including Ciudad Juárez, where snowfall was accompanied by rain and a significant drop in temperature, according to Civil Protection reports.

Authorities warned that the extreme cold will continue in the coming days, with temperatures potentially dropping as low as -6 degrees Celsius (23 degrees Fahrenheit). They urged the public to exercise extreme caution while driving, avoid unnecessary travel in mountainous areas, and check that heating systems in their homes are functioning properly.

Finally, they reiterated the call to stay informed through official channels, as a mechanical failure or a road blockage due to snow can become a life-threatening situation in a matter of minutes during the winter season.

Police officers rescued a family trapped by the snow in the municipality of Guadalupe y Calvo.

El estado de Chihuahua es uno de los más afectados.
