Mexico and the United States convened the third meeting of the Security Implementation Group (SIG) in Washington, which “reaffirmed their priority of ending the fentanyl crisis by accelerating extraditions and transfers of high-value targets belonging to Transnational Criminal Organizations (TCOs), dismantling illicit financing networks that facilitate both organized crime and terrorism, and intensifying efforts to curb arms trafficking across the border,” the State Department said.

It added that “representatives from six U.S. government agencies and their Mexican counterparts convened the third SIG meeting in Washington, D.C., on January 23 to advance immediate and impactful results in security cooperation.”

“Ahead of major sporting events, the United States and Mexico agreed on two key initiatives and how to move forward with their implementation to combat illicit Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS),” the Department added.

He added that “the United States thanked Mexico for its historic transfer on January 20 of 37 criminals and narco-terrorists, as well as for the collaboration between our authorities that led to the capture of Ryan Wedding, one of the FBI’s 10 most wanted fugitives. These concrete achievements highlight the results of our close bilateral cooperation.”
