Decades ago, manual transmissions were the most common in the global automotive industry. However, automatic transmissions (torque converter, CVT, dual-clutch, automated manual, etc.) have been gaining ground, and unfortunately, Mexico hasn’t been left behind in this trend, leaving only a few dozen options with three pedals.
Although a manual car requires less maintenance and is more fun to drive, the fact that you don’t have to learn to drive these types of transmissions, the comfort they offer, and even their speed and efficiency have made automatic cars the favorite of the average driver.
However, driving enthusiasts have also been affected, as several brands no longer bother to offer a manual option in their more fun or sporty cars, which has meant that the “standard” transmission is now reserved for vehicles considered entry-level, inexpensive, and especially work vehicles.
Having said all of the above, these are all the manual cars that survive in Mexico (there are cars that do have manual transmissions, but are no longer sold in our country, such as the BMW M2 or the Mitsubishi Mirage G4):

If we remove all commercial or work vehicles, including all pickup trucks, only 50 cars with manual transmissions remain. Most of them only offer this type of gearbox in the entry-level versions, but what is most striking is that purists have very few options available to them, since only nine sports cars have this option and the number could be reduced even further, because the Supra is in its final weeks of life and the GR Yaris is not always available.
