As an ongoing initiative, the “Welcome Little Tree” program continues to promote the reforestation of urban areas, stated Joanna Margarita Moreno Manzo, Secretary of Urban Development and Mobility.

In an interview at the Morelia Administrative Center (CAM), Joanna Margarita Moreno explained that, regardless of the time of year, it is possible to request a municipal permit to plant urban trees near one’s home or business.

She added that the initiative, which began in 2024, is expected to be relaunched to coincide with the 2026 rainy season, in collaboration with the Ministry of Environment and Sustainability.

This is to take advantage of rainfall and the higher concentration of moisture in the soil, thus maximizing the survival rate of the planted trees.

Welcome Little Tree is an initiative through which the municipality facilitates the approval process for residents to plant trees in areas near their homes within urban environments.

This is granted if the site meets minimum requirements to allow pedestrian access and protect buildings and basic infrastructure.

The applicant is responsible for providing the trees and carrying out the necessary work, and receives guidance on appropriate species and required tasks.
