This Sunday, January 25th, will be etched in the state’s meteorological records as one of the hottest for the first month of the year. According to the official report from Conagua meteorologist Jessica Iveth Luna Lagunes, a mass of warm air caused temperatures to rise dramatically, surprising mainly the mountainous regions.
In the state capital, Xalapa, the temperature change was radical. After starting the day with a cool 14.2°C (57.5°F) morning, the thermometer climbed rapidly to a high of 29.4°C (84.5°F).
This temperature, coupled with a relative humidity of 57%, created an unusually hot afternoon that forced residents to seek refuge from the sun, far exceeding typical winter conditions in Xalapa.
The most significant event of the day occurred at the Orizaba Observatory, where a historical record that had stood for more than six decades was broken. The city reached an extreme temperature of 33.0°C, surpassing the 32.8°C recorded on January 11, 1961.
This new all-time high confirms the trend of atypical temperatures in the central mountainous region of the state of Veracruz.
Meanwhile, the southern part of the state also reported high temperatures, with Coatzacoalcos registering the highest temperature across the network of observatories at 35.0°C.
In the coastal area of Boca del Río, the high reached 28.0°C with 83% humidity, while in the north, the city of Tuxpan experienced more moderate conditions with 23.6°C and 96% humidity.
