The State Attorney General’s Office reported that three members of a criminal gang were sentenced for extortion, and another was formally charged with the same crime committed against business owners in San Miguel de Allende.
Those sentenced to four years in prison are Luis Gerardo “N”, Alejandro “N”, and Perla María del Carmen “N”, who repeatedly and systematically carried out the extortion. They were sentenced to four years in prison in an expedited trial.
The criminals employed the same modus operandi to demand illicit payments from various businesses, creating an atmosphere of fear and harming the local economy, the office stated.
It was also reported that Joel “N” was formally charged for his alleged involvement in the same crimes. The corresponding criminal proceedings will continue, and he will remain in pretrial detention throughout the ongoing investigation.
