“Human beings are the only animals that stumble over the same stone.” This statement is confirmed with every step and episode of our 21st century. Now that the first quarter of the century has passed, we can see the regression and the return of past ambitions, only now they are excessive. The great powers, the powerful owners of money and governments, no longer want to invade a country; now they want to divide the world among themselves without humanity being able to demand its right to exist.
At the end of World War II, many of us witnessed scenes as cruel and heartbreaking as the suffering of people fleeing Hitler’s forces, who arrested them with their families and sent them to concentration camps to suffer until death. We watched in disbelief as a deranged man sought to eliminate all those who opposed his power and dominion, and was praised by millions who imitated his cruelty and madness to an extreme degree. The reign of terror on earth. But like everything built on such foundations, it eventually crumbled, leaving behind the scars of its evil.
A few years ago, I read the book “The Arms Bazaar,” which exposes the enormous advances in the global arms industry and its main promoters. Enormous displays were staged to demonstrate the effectiveness of the weapons they sold. Today, the stage is the very lives of innocent people who, as “cannon fodder,” serve to demonstrate the power of these weapons.
The book “The Oil Wars” lists the many countries that, because they possess this underground wealth, have been mercilessly massacred. Possessing the “blood of progress” clouds the minds of the powerful, and they commit the worst acts with impunity. They justify themselves by brandishing blatant lies. Wars since the last century have been, and continue to be, fought for control of energy.
The hallmark of our times is the brazen cynicism that has supplanted diplomacy. 21st-century imperialism is returning to methods of direct, pre-announced intervention, as is the case with Venezuela, which is already considered the modern-day Poland, where it is signing the death warrant of the globalization of the last four decades. This has triggered a violent coexistence with an imperialist and interventionist power in the weak countries of Latin America and even in Greenland. It is true that the post-war order has expired. The organizations created are obsolete. The powerful are moving forward in the division of the world: the US, China, and Russia. Each country must watch its own back.
The powerful have weapons, power, and perhaps money. But our countries possess a wealth of resources that they have always coveted and that have fueled their development. Let us be aware of our true power, honor our commitments, and seek internal well-being. Empires implode and disappear. Just a few steps away is the Yankee empire with its would-be dictator.
