Ceramic sculpture is more vibrant than ever in Coahuila, and the exhibition “Desert Ceramics 4.0” demonstrates the versatility of this material and the diverse range of works that the state’s artists are capable of creating.
Opening this Thursday at the García Carrillo Cultural Center, the exhibition brings together the work of artists, sculptors, and ceramicists from Saltillo, Monclova, and Torreón, offering a glimpse into the current state of this art form in the region.
“Every year more workshops and more artists join in,” explained artist Sinhué Delgado, the exhibition’s organizer, to VANGUARDIA. “We are inviting creators who are already working with this material. For example, Roy Carrum has his own kiln; he has become independent, and that’s how the workshops are growing.”

The fourth edition of this platform continues its mission to showcase the Coahuila ceramics scene, regardless of theme or approach to the material. The exhibition features everything from conventional sculptures to hyperrealistic and abstract pieces that experiment with firing, oxides, and various other techniques.
“We’ve been witnessing an evolution for several years now. In Torreón, ceramics have been elevated to a higher standard; they’re now mounting exhibitions, and we have colleagues like Rafa Yáñez, whose work has become impeccable,” he commented.
The exhibition includes the work of artists such as Abdiel Abel Valenzuela, Abigail Aráoz, Alejandra Berrueto, Alejandra Coronado, Alejandro Cisneros, Alexa Quiroz, Alhelí González, Anabel Fuentes, Any Martínez, Antonio Herrera, Armando Meza, and Asís Jaramillo.
Joining them are Ebel Charles, Elisa María Serra, Elisa Rábago, Elsa Fraire, Estefanía Ramírez, Fátima Buitrón, Federico Jordán, Fher Galván, Gabriela Guevara, Gabriela Recio, Georgina Chapa, Humberto Torres, Jesús Soto, Jorge Alvarado, Jorge Palomares, and José Gerardo Ramírez.
Also participating are Karla Arellano, Mae Delgado, Maleny Rocha, Mane Delgado, Mariela Gutiérrez, Martha Garza, Michelle Josafat Gaytán, Mónica Martínez, Natalia Alejandrina Blanco, Rafael Yáñez, Raymundo Rodríguez, Roque Siller, Rosalina Cervantes, Rosy Ayala, Sinhué Delgado, Tania Hernández, Vange Tamez, Víctor Venegas, and Yohanna González.
