The Management of the Historic Center of the government of the city of Puebla reported that it will reinforce surveillance in the Plaza de la Democracia after the new mutilation suffered by the statue of the writer Elena Garro.

This was announced on the social networks of the collective “Las Elenistas”, which is made up of academics and students of the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters of the BUAP who admire the playwright from Puebla.

The Management of the Historic Center of Puebla also mentioned that the piece will be restored according to the corresponding technical processes.

However, he avoided setting a date to begin with the new maintenance work, since it should be remembered that last September they already restored the sculpture after being vandalized in the San Luis Park, on 5 de Mayo Street and 10 East.

Likewise, the Management of the Center did not detail the financial investment to protect the work.

It should be added that the collective “Las Elenistas” took advantage of the digital response of the agency to also request that they regulate the spaces of the merchants of the temporary tianguis that is installed in the Plaza de la Democracia.

This under the argument that its tents hide the piece, dedicated to the famous writer who, at the time, was misunderstood by the literary sector of her time.

“The Elenists” stressed that the attacks on Elena Garro’s sculpture are not only about material damage, it is also an attack on the memory, the word and the legacy of a woman who wrote and denounced when it was not well seen to do so.

“Taking care of their memory is an act of cultural justice. Reading it, naming it and defending its place in history is also resisting,” said the collective.
