Puerto Adolfo López Mateos is preparing for one of the most anticipated events of the year: the Gray Whale Festival, which will take place from Friday, January 30th to Sunday, February 1st. This celebration strengthens community identity, boosts the local economy, and promotes sustainable tourism in the region.
In this regard, the Undersecretary of Tourism for the State Government, Fernando Ojeda Aguilar, invited families from Baja California Sur and visitors to participate in this event, highlighting that the festival represents a significant economic boost for the community, benefiting tourism service providers, restaurant owners, merchants, and families directly and indirectly involved.
The official from the Ministry of Tourism and Economy emphasized that, although gray whales can be sighted in various parts of the state, Puerto Adolfo López Mateos has established itself as a national and international benchmark for this experience.
Paul Alvarado, president of the Organizing Committee, announced that the program includes cultural, artistic, and recreational activities throughout the three days, highlighting the coronation of Migdalia I and the closing musical performances by Banda del Presidio and Alteños de la Sierra.
He added that, according to the latest census, approximately 100 cetaceans are present in the area, and that whale watching tours are available from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., emphasizing that they are conducted under strict guidelines of care and respect for the species.
Finally, the public is encouraged to enjoy the event responsibly, support the local community, and experience a unique blend of nature, culture, and tradition in one of Baja California Sur’s most iconic destinations.
