Los Angeles, California. February 1, 2026 – In response to the current migratory climate, the Government of Guanajuato, through its liaison office “Tu Casa Guanajuato”, served more than 870 countrymen during January in a joint effort with the Consulate General of Mexico in this city. This action seeks to protect the identity and rights of the Mexican community in the face of the uncertainty generated by the recent immigration raids in the United States.
The strategic coordination is carried out on the instructions of Governor Libia Dennise García Muñoz Ledo through the Secretariat of Human Rights. From January 2 to 31, the liaison office facilities hosted direct attention for essential documentation procedures such as Mexican passport, consular registration and voting card (INE).
Human labor beyond the administrative
Lucero Amador, in charge of “Tu Casa Guanajuato”, explained the humanitarian approach of this work: “Our work is not only administrative, but it is human… For a Guanajuato citizen to know that he has an office in his state ready to support him while he processes his passport is to assure him that his government knows no borders.”
Although the office does not directly issue these federal documents, it functions as a crucial facilitator, providing accompaniment, guidance, and technical advice to ensure the success of each procedure.
Institutional synergy in the largest Guanajuato community abroad
This collaboration acquires special relevance as it takes place in Los Angeles, the city with the highest concentration of Guanajuato residents outside of Mexico. The initiative not only facilitates documentary procedures but also strengthens the sense of belonging by connecting migrants directly with the representation of their home state.
The office also takes advantage of this contact to disseminate specific programs of the People’s Government aimed at nationals abroad, including educational support, return programs, and cultural outreach projects.
Broad coverage and ongoing commitment
“Tu Casa Guanajuato” provides care to Guanajuato residents living in ten states on the West Coast of the United States, covering Alaska, California, Nevada, Utah, Oregon, Washington, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Arizona.
The office reaffirms its commitment to continue working together with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to ensure that no Guanajuato or Mexican in Los Angeles County and the surrounding areas lack basic services that protect their identity and rights. During 2025, this office provided 3,811 services to Mexicans and Guanajuato, consolidating itself as a refuge of services and guidance for the migrant community.
