Butchers in Durango report an ‘exaggerated’ drop in sales

Compared to the same month in previous years, January saw an “exaggerated” reduction in sales at local butcher shops, reported Adriana Miranda, advisor to the National Chamber of Commerce (Canaco) and a business owner in the sector.

“Sales have been very depressed; we’ve had a decrease of 20 to 25 percent, if not 27 percent. I was reviewing the indicators, and sales have been severely impacted at the start of this year,” she stated.

In this regard, she said that based on an analysis of the figures, it is possible to determine that the beginning of this year was much more difficult than previous years due to the lack of circulating cash.

“It’s more complicated now, since I was reviewing the figures for 2024 and 2025, and this January in particular, the drop in sales was particularly noticeable. Because January should really be a very good month for butcher shops. When it’s cold, people want to eat more meat, and right now the decrease in sales has been shocking,” he added.

Therefore, butcher shops are focusing on promotion and local consumption.
