Reduced connection with Oaxaca International Airport

OAXACA, Oax. February 1, 2026.- Governor Salomón Jara Cruz inaugurated the first stage of the road and channeling on the banks of the Atoyac River, infrastructure that will connect the area of the Exgarita with the Oaxaca International Airport and will reduce travel times, in addition to reducing risks for those who transit through the place. The state governor announced in a statement that in this initial phase the work on the Exgarita-Cumbres section was concluded, with an extension of 1.1 kilometers, out of a total of 3.1 kilometers contemplated; in which almost 500 million pesos were allocated, an investment that will contribute to generating a more dignified, safe and functional environment for the urban planning of the Metropolitan Area of Oaxaca. “When there is coordination, planning, and will, the works become real solutions for citizens; well-planned public works transform territories and open opportunities,” he said from Santa Cruz Xoxocotlán. This important road, where the municipalities of Oaxaca de Juárez, Santa Cruz Xoxocotlán, San Antonio de la Cal, and San Agustín de la Juntas converge, is built with four lanes of 3.2 meters wide, a bicycle lane, and wide sidewalks that privilege pedestrian traffic. The head of the Secretariat of Infrastructure and Communications (SIC), Carlos Vichido Hernández, explained that in this phase, 400 square meters were paved, slopes and embankments were built to protect the banks of the tributary, more than 700 linear meters of sanitary collectors in the metropolitan area were rehabilitated, and underground storm drainage systems and drains were built. The works also required the expansion of the electricity distribution network and public lighting, telephony, as well as the construction of garrisons and the placement of horizontal and vertical signs. “The route is destined to be one of the most important in the Metropolitan Area of Oaxaca and will benefit tens of thousands of people. This administration considers mobility as one of the guiding axes of territorial planning and the quality of life of citizens,” he concluded.
