While overseeing the progress of the expansion and paving of the 6.3 km Puebla-Tlaxcala highway, which provides access to the state capital, Governor Alejandro Armenta emphasized that this project will enhance connectivity and benefit 1.6 million people.

The work is being carried out at a third of the cost, unlike projects undertaken by contract, because it utilizes materials donated by Petróleos Mexicanos (PEMEX) and machinery modules acquired by the state government. “The paving project will be implemented throughout the state,” the governor highlighted during a friendly dialogue with residents and workers in the area.

The project is currently 40 percent complete. The governor stated that the rehabilitation is a commitment being fulfilled, as the people of Puebla requested the repair of all entrances and exits to the state. The connection with Tlaxcala includes the complete modernization of the boulevard.

Governor Alejandro Armenta explained that heavy machinery will be used to remove soil from medians and curbs, enhancing Puebla’s image. He emphasized that the construction of the 5 de Mayo Peripheral Ring Road, comprised of two circuits, north and south, will comprehensively resolve the traffic problems facing the northern part of the city by improving connectivity, streamlining traffic flow, and strengthening public safety.

The Secretary of Infrastructure, José Manuel Contreras de los Santos, reported that the expansion of the Puebla-Tlaxcala highway will benefit residents of the communities of San Pablo Xochimehuacan, San Jerónimo Caleras, and San Felipe Hueyotlipan. The project involves a total of 6.3 kilometers of paving.

During the site visit, Governor Alejandro Armenta was accompanied by local residents to witness the progress. “The traffic was very slow, and it took us a long time to get to downtown Puebla,” said Juana Cortes González, a resident of the San Pablo Xochimehuacan community, who affirmed that the road is a vital connection between Tlaxcala and Puebla. She celebrated that the modernization will expedite traffic flow and benefit those who commute to work or school.

For her part, Constanza acknowledged that the rehabilitation was necessary, given the heavy traffic on the road. She expressed the need for traffic lights to prevent accidents and thanked Governor Alejandro Armenta for the initiative to improve the road between Puebla and Tlaxcala.

“It was in deplorable condition for many years, around eight or nine,” recounted Inés Alejandro, a resident who lives and works in the area. He noted that the road remained in poor condition throughout that time and that, during the rainy season, the deterioration of the pavement worsened, to the point of making passage through the area virtually impossible.
