He was homeless and represented a risk due to his behavior.

A series of arrests for administrative offenses set off the alerts of the authorities in Chapala and Ajijic, and ended up revealing the irregular presence of a citizen of the United States, who, in just one month, was apprehended on at least seven occasions by the Municipal Police. The case led to the intervention of the National Institute of Migration and his subsequent surrender to begin the repatriation process.

This is James Mitchell Wegryn, 39 years old, who was recurrently located in tourist and residential areas of the municipality. During his last arrest, the man reported that he did not have relatives in Mexico or a fixed address, so he was homeless.

Given the risk that his behavior represented for the citizenry, the Government of Chapala requested the verification of his immigration status, confirming that he was in the country irregularly.

On January 7, he was handed over to the federal immigration authority in Guadalajara, an instance that will now determine his legal situation in accordance with current regulations.
