Violence in Guanajuato is exacerbated by multiple massacres and the discovery of graves.
Guanajuato began 2026 with 222 homicides in January, a figure that maintains the upward trend. The month was marked by the tragic massacre in Salamanca, where 11 people were killed during a football match. This event revives the terror of rampant violence in the state.
The situation was further aggravated by attacks on a rehabilitation center, which left several victims. In addition, clandestine graves were found, with more than 18 bodies recovered in different locations. Despite these incidents, several municipalities maintained relative calm by registering no homicides.
Violence continues to be a persistent challenge in Guanajuato, with a focus on insecurity and organized crime.
