The Tamaulipas Public Security Secretariat is making progress in installing secure checkpoints along the state’s main highways, with the goal of ensuring constant patrols and a greater response capacity, reported its head, Carlos Arturo Pancardo Escudero.
According to the head of security in Tamaulipas, the project is on schedule and includes two stations to be completed this year, while three or four additional stations should be ready by the beginning of next year, strengthening security on strategic routes in the northern part of the state.
Carlos Arturo Pancardo Escudero explained that one of the stations is already significantly advanced in Camargo, and was recently inspected by Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
“We are on schedule to deliver some this year; three or four should be ready by the beginning of next year,” he stated.
What will this infrastructure contribute to highway security in Tamaulipas?
The stations will allow for continuous surveillance every 25 kilometers, with permanent patrols and technological support to reinforce security along the entire route from Matamoros to Monterrey.
“It will contribute to security along the entire route… it will be constantly patrolled,” the secretary emphasized.
How many stations and patrol cars are needed for effective coverage in Tamaulipas?
Although the plan includes 15 stations under construction, the head of the SSP indicated that, with the current system, they are sufficient as long as there is constant traffic.
Regarding equipment, he specified that the state has around 450 patrol cars, of which approximately 300 are assigned to highway surveillance.
“The number we have is sufficient; the important thing is not to reduce it,” he stated.
Where will the new secure stations in Tamaulipas be located?
The official detailed the strategic location of the stations at key points along the border and in the northern part of the state: Camargo, Miguel Alemán, Mier, Guerrero (three in that area), one near Nuevo Laredo, as well as Río Bravo, Matamoros, and Iguerillas.
This network aims to close gaps and improve operational presence in high-traffic areas.
Finally, Carlos Arturo Pancardo Escudero mentioned that there is a project for a new prison in Ciudad Victoria, although he clarified that it still needs to be finalized and that he does not have further details at the moment.
With this deployment of secure stations, patrols, and technology, the SSP (State Public Security Secretariat) is confident it will improve the perception and actual security conditions for those traveling on Tamaulipas highways.
