As part of the Adopt a Beach program, which is part of Mexico’s National Strategy for Cleaning and Conserving Beaches and Coasts 2025–2030, the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat), in collaboration with Tetra Pak, carried out clean-up and environmental education campaigns on beaches in Oaxaca and Jalisco. These were the first 12 activities planned for 2026, during which more than 280 kilograms of waste were collected.

The clean-up took place on January 29, 30, and 31 at Agua Blanca, San Agustinillo, and Bocabarra de la Laguna del Palmar beaches in Oaxaca; and on January 30 and 31 at Melaque–Barra de Navidad and Punta Pérula beaches in Jalisco. An additional clean-up is scheduled for February 15 at La Manzanilla, Jalisco.

The participation of Tetra Pak, a food packaging and processing solutions company, was key to the design and implementation of the workshops, contributing its experience in the circular economy and recycling, as well as its knowledge of the responsible management of post-consumer materials. Through these activities, the company reaffirms its commitment to developing sustainable solutions that contribute to the protection of coastal ecosystems and the strengthening of local capacities.

“At Tetra Pak, we understand that sustainability goes beyond our production processes; it involves working together with authorities, communities, and organizations to generate real change. These workshops reflect our commitment to promoting a culture of recycling and environmental stewardship that will have a lasting impact on the country’s coasts,” said Alfredo Román, Sustainability Manager at Tetra Pak Mexico.

In addition, awareness-raising activities were carried out for the local population and visitors, focusing on the proper separation of waste and the importance of conserving natural spaces.

The selected beaches represented strategic contexts for the implementation of comprehensive conservation actions, allowing the exchange of experiences between communities, authorities and the private sector, and generating replicable learning in other parts of the country.
