The General Hospital of Pachuca was the starting point for a high-priority medical operation that enabled the timely transfer of a heart to Mexico City, marking the first organ transplant performed in Hidalgo in 2026.
According to the Hidalgo State Health Secretariat (SSH), the process began with the medical care of a 21-year-old male donor, from whom the organ was procured. Once this phase was completed, a coordinated deployment was activated to ensure the immediate transfer of the heart to the “La Raza” Specialty Hospital in the nation’s capital, respecting the critical timeframes required for a transplant of this nature. The organ was destined to benefit a 24-year-old woman.
The state agency reported that this achievement was the result of an inter-institutional strategy involving various levels of the health sector and support services. The operation was coordinated by the head of the Hidalgo State Health Secretariat (SSH) and involved the participation of the Hidalgo Medical Emergency Regulatory Center (CRUMH), the State Transplant Center, IMSS Bienestar (a social security program), the regular IMSS (Mexican Social Security Institute), as well as state emergency and security agencies.
The organ was transported by air from the Pachuca airport to Mexico City, as part of the reactivation of organ procurement and donation processes in the state.
Through his social media accounts, Governor Julio Menchaca highlighted the importance of the operation and the coordinated work between institutions. He noted that the air transport of the organ was made possible thanks to the joint effort of the health, emergency, and security teams, which allowed a new opportunity for life to reach the person who needed it most.
The SSH reiterated that these types of procedures reflect the state’s commitment to organ donation and specialized medical care, and emphasized the importance of institutional collaboration to guarantee safe and efficient transports within the timeframes required for these processes.
