Police officers arrested four members of a criminal group dedicated to fraud and theft in vehicle sales through social media, after they robbed a buyer and his son of 120,000 pesos and two cell phones in the Iztapalapa borough of Mexico City (CDMX).
The detainees were identified as Ludwin Kevin “N”, 22, alias “El Kevin”; Brayan Adrián “N”, 26, alias “El Becerro”; Carlos “N”, 57, alias “El Gigi”; and Joshua “N”, 21, who operated primarily in the Ejército Constitucionalista neighborhood.
According to the investigation, the criminals used fake profiles on Facebook Marketplace to advertise vehicles for sale. Once they arranged meetings with their victims in the Iztapalapa borough, they threatened them with firearms to rob them of cash and valuables.
Their last robbery was on January 25, when a buyer and his son were robbed of 120,000 pesos and two cell phones during a supposed vehicle sale. Following up on the case, on January 29, the first suspect was arrested, which allowed authorities to identify the addresses used by the group as their base of operations.
With the evidence obtained, a judge authorized search warrants for two properties located in the Ejército Constitucionalista neighborhood. At the first address, two men were arrested, and 59 doses of marijuana were seized, along with two sets of license plates, a vehicle registration card, and a VIN plate, all with active theft reports.
At the second property, two more men were arrested. At the scene, authorities seized 140 doses of marijuana, two license plates, two vehicle registration documents, as well as three official identification cards and a driver’s license, all allegedly counterfeit.
According to the investigation, one of the detainees lured the victims and threatened them to commit the robbery, while the other acted as a lookout.
The four detainees were turned over to the Public Prosecutor, who will determine their legal status. The properties were secured and placed under police guard while the investigation continues.
