Expansion of the Nuevo Laredo III International Bridge
The expansion of the Nuevo Laredo III International Bridge is advancing as one of the key projects to maintain Tamaulipas as the border with the greatest economic exchange with the United States, the state government reported.
The work is part of the strategy promoted by the administration of Américo Villarreal Anaya, which seeks to strengthen a sustainable economy and respond to the growth of foreign trade in the border region.
Currently, the Nuevo Laredo crossing is the main point of entry and exit of goods between Mexico and the United States, so its modernization is considered a priority to maintain the flow of trade.
The Secretary of Public Works, Pedro Cepeda Anaya, explained that the project contemplates expanding the existing body of the bridge, which will go from eight to ten lanes, in addition to the construction of a new parallel body of eight lanes.
With these works, the crossing will have 18 exclusive lanes for cargo transport, which will significantly increase its operational capacity.
Cepeda Anaya pointed out that about 50% of the country’s cargo transport crosses through this international point, which makes the World Trade Bridge the crossing with the greatest economic activity in Latin America.
The high demand for tractor-trailers has made it necessary to expand the infrastructure to avoid saturation and maintain the pace of international trade.
Economic impact for Tamaulipas
According to the official, the expansion will speed up crossing times, reduce logistics costs and strengthen the competitiveness of the region.
These benefits will have a direct impact on the productive sectors, foreign trade, and the generation of jobs in the state.
The Government of Tamaulipas stressed that the modernization of the border infrastructure consolidates the state as a strategic point in the commercial relationship between Mexico and the United States and reinforces its role as an economic engine of the northeast of the country.
With this work, Nuevo Laredo remains one of the most important borders for international trade.
