The projects selected by city residents through the participatory budgeting mechanism, a strategy announced in 2025, will begin construction this week in different parts of the municipality.
These are nine proposals that received the most votes on the digital platform launched by the Saltillo Municipal Government.
The program allowed citizens to propose and choose priority projects for their neighborhoods, following a process that included a public call for proposals, voting, and administrative validation. With this stage now complete, the projects are entering their implementation phase, with construction and renovations beginning this year.
The planned actions include the restoration of public spaces, road rehabilitation, and urban improvements in residential and rural areas.
What types of projects were selected by the residents?
The winning proposals address basic community needs, including:
Construction and rehabilitation of public squares
Repair of streets and alleyways
Improvements to urban infrastructure
Some of the neighborhoods that will benefit include Misión Cerritos, La Azteca, Las Maravillas, Guerrero, and Morelos, as well as the San Juan de la Vaquería ejido, where a community space will also be improved.
How were the citizen-led projects selected?
The process began in August 2025 with the opening of the digital platform for submitting proposals. Subsequently:
Citizen voting took place in September.
The winning projects were selected in October.
Technical and regulatory procedures were then completed.
It is worth noting that each sector of the city had a selected project, ensuring territorial distribution in this first edition of the program.
How much money is allocated, and will the budget increase?
To launch the program, approximately 3% of property taxes, equivalent to about 15 million pesos, were allocated.
Municipal authorities estimate that the investment could approach 20 million pesos in future editions as participation increases.
