The Secretary of the Interior of the State of Veracruz, Samuel Aguilar Pala, revealed that six mayors in the state, in addition to the mayor of Ayotoxco, Alicia Guerrero Hernández, have requested protection from the state government after receiving threats or being victims of attacks.
In the case of Guerrero Hernández, he indicated that there are signs that the shooting attack against her in the early morning of February 3rd, while she was traveling on the Amozoc-Perote highway, was carried out by members of organized crime.
“She makes some accusations against certain individuals in that region, especially since it borders Veracruz; it seems the problem is related to that (organized crime),” explained Aguilar Pala, who reported that the driver who was injured is still receiving medical attention.
He added that after surviving this attack, the mayor of Ayotoxco requested security and has now been assigned bodyguards.
He specified that, with Guerrero Hernández, there are now seven mayors in Puebla who have requested security protection.
Besides the mayor of Ayotoxco, the mayors who have requested bodyguards to date due to attacks or threats are those of Huixcolotla, Ixcamilpa, Xicotepec, Acatlán, Tepeyahualco, and Tulcingo del Valle.
