The Director General of the National Commission for Physical Culture and Sport (CONADE), Rommel Pacheco Marrufo, officially presented the Mérida 2026 World Indoor Archery Series, a prestigious event that will take place from February 13 to 15 in Mérida.
At a press conference held this Tuesday, Pacheco Marrufo shared details of the competition, which will bring together the world’s best archers at the Yucatán Siglo XXI Convention and Exhibition Center.
The Mérida 2026 World Indoor Archery Series is a key event within the annual circuit of the International Archery Federation (World Archery), as it is a Category 500 tournament, a higher ranking than most of the other venues in the series, and awards significant points toward the international ranking.
The head of CONADE was accompanied by national team members and multi-medalists Ángela Ruiz and Maya Becerra, as well as the president of World Archery Mexico, Gabriel Ramos. The director of the Yucatán State Sports Institute (IDEY), Armin Lizama; and the president of the State Archery Association, Enrique Gamboa.
This competition will take place at a key moment for Mexican sports, as 2026 marks the beginning of the Olympic cycle leading up to Los Angeles 2028, and archery is one of the priority sports on the road to this major event, according to statements made by Pacheco Marrufo a few months ago.
Within the framework of the Mérida 2026 World Indoor Archery Series, efforts will be intensified to establish the Archery Center of Excellence for the Americas, which was announced last year by CONADE and World Archery Mexico. This center will benefit not only Mexican archers but also those from neighboring countries seeking to train in Mexico.
The competition taking place in the Yucatecan capital will not be the only top-level event hosted by our country this year. From April 7th to 12th, Puebla will host the first stage of the World Cup Series, while on September 12th and 13th, Saltillo will host the World Cup Finals.
At the state level, the indoor tournament is expected to have a significant impact on archers, as recent results have established Yucatán as a leading contender and a strong candidate for victory year after year at the CONADE National Olympics.
It’s worth noting that Mexico has been considered a world power in international archery for several years now, thanks to its numerous achievements and podium finishes at the Olympic Games, World Championships, World Games, World Cups, and Pan American Games, among others.
