Historic homes and buildings in the Barrio del Alto have received maintenance and fresh paint on their façades to improve the area’s urban image ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
These efforts are part of the preparations to welcome tourists and visitors from around the world, positioning Puebla’s Historic Center as one of the five Tourist Routes being developed by the State Government for the World Cup.
The state’s proposal includes visits to Pueblos Mágicos and historic zones. For this reason, the Government of Puebla, through the Secretariat of Tourism Development, recently announced a series of promotional actions designed for this international event.
These initiatives are backed by Governor Alejandro Armenta, who has promoted tourism as a driver of economic development and shared prosperity, aligned with the national strategy led by President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo.
As part of this plan, and in coordination with the Cabinet Coordination Office headed by José Luis García Parra, agreements will be signed with more than 30 media outlets specializing in sports tourism, which have a reach of over 10 countries. This will be complemented by coverage in general media, cinema advertising, international streaming platforms, outdoor campaigns, and partnerships with travel agencies, tour operators, and BTL activations.
Within the national strategy “From Intention to Action, Together,” Puebla will participate in an urban art initiative leading up to the 2026 World Cup. This campaign blends tourism, art, and sustainability, in collaboration with all 32 states and the federal government, featuring the work of artist César Menchaca.
The project includes the installation of iconic containers for collecting reusable plastics, which will later be transformed into monumental sculptures created alongside Indigenous communities from Puebla. These pieces will be displayed across the state as visible symbols of the Puebla brand—the heartbeat of Mexico.
Regarding tourism products, five World Cup routes were presented as part of the national offering for commercialization with travel agencies and tour operators. These routes include the Tehuacán-Cuicatlán Biosphere Reserve; the Pueblos Mágicos and the Coffee or BioCoffee Route; Cantona; Puebla’s Historic Center; and the Pueblo Mágico of Atlixco. The goal is to strengthen tourism connectivity and encourage longer visitor stays during the World Cup period.
