On Friday night, a group of at least 100 residents of Los Reyes de Juárez blocked the Puebla-Orizaba highway following the disappearance of a man. They are demanding assistance from state authorities in locating him.
The blockade began around 10:30 p.m. at kilometer 166+500, near the municipality of Acatzingo, after family and friends demanded that authorities find Erick Rosas Castillo alive.
Rosas Castillo was reported missing after he was allegedly abducted Friday afternoon by an armed group on the streets of the municipality.
Under the slogan “We will not move until we get answers,” the protesters have placed obstacles, including burning tires and banners on the highway, to pressure the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE).
The blockade is ongoing in both directions, affecting those traveling to Veracruz as well as those heading to the city of Puebla. The traffic disruption has resulted in kilometers-long lines of private vehicles and trucks.
The following personnel are already present at the scene:
National Guard (Highway Division), officers from the Secretariat of Public Security (SSP), and personnel from the State Attorney General’s Office (FGE), who are directing traffic to prevent accidents and to establish a dialogue with the protesters.
The time when traffic might be reopened is currently unknown, as family members are threatening to continue the protest until the early hours of Saturday.
