The AHRM hopes that this migratory measure is not only because of the World Cup.

The Riviera Maya Hotel Association (AHRM) welcomed the announcement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) to have restored, as of February 5, the option of processing electronic visas for Brazilian citizens entering Mexico by air.

“It is very positive news for Mexico, and especially for the Riviera Maya. The Brazilian market is very important and leaves an important spill for the Mexican Caribbean. This change will undoubtedly help to increase the number of tourists of this nationality,” said Toni Chaves, president of the AHRM.

The business leader stressed that the hotel sector of Quintana Roo has been asking the Mexican government to return the electronic visa for almost three years and recognized the work and management of Governor Mara Lezama and the State Secretary of Tourism, Bernardo Cueto Riestra, who led various meetings they held with the federal government.

“We hope that this migratory measure is not something momentary due to the issue of the World Cup, but that it remains established in time to maintain this important market,” he emphasized.

It should be noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of the Interior published last Thursday an agreement in the Official Gazette of the Federation that restores the option of applying online for the electronic visa for Brazilian citizens who want to travel for tourism or business purposes to Mexico, which will prevent them from having to go personally to the consulate.

The president of the AHRM stressed that since 2022, with the implementation of a stricter visa requirement by the Mexican government and the removal of the electronic system, there has been a significant drop in Brazilian tourists. “Before the decision to remove the electronic visa, we had nine flights from Brazil a week, which were lost due to this change in the visa,” he said.

According to the National Institute of Migration and Civil Aeronautics, the number of Brazilian passengers who arrived at Quintana Roo’s airports in 2025 had a drastic drop to just 85 thousand, when in 2022 they totaled 142 thousand, which represents a decrease of 40 percent

Finally, Toni Chaves reiterated that the reestablishment of the electronic visa system will revitalize the influx of Brazilian tourism this year, especially in destinations such as Cancun and the Riviera Maya.
