San Miguel de Allende, Gto., February 6, 2026.- More than 205 thousand minutes of reading place the Technical High School No. 42, in San Miguel de Allende, as an international benchmark in reading training, after obtaining first place in the world in The Great Reading Tournament, a contest that brought together educational institutions from different countries and contexts.

Reading became a real tool for transformation for his students, who demonstrated discipline, perseverance, and passion for learning. This achievement is the result of the collective effort of the students of the morning and afternoon shifts, who, during the reading competition, consolidated an outstanding performance at a global level.

Beyond the historical figure, the triumph reflects the strengthening of key skills such as reading comprehension, critical thinking, oral and written expression, as well as collaborative work, fundamental competencies for their academic and personal development. With this result, the students not only raised the name of their school and Guanajuato, but also confirmed that reading opens doors, broadens horizons, and transforms realities.

The principal of the school, Ángel Hernández García, stressed that this result has its origin in the classroom and in the trust placed in the students. “What we celebrate today was born as a talk between teachers and students, and it became a challenge that our young people took on with commitment. Today we celebrate a goal achieved in reading thanks to their effort.”

Technical High School 42 surpassed institutions in Peru and the United States, positioning itself as number one worldwide, which confirms that education in Guanajuato, with teacher accompaniment and family participation, can generate results of high impact and international projection.

During the award ceremony, the promoter of the tournament in Mexico, Geoffrey Drayton, underscored the value of this achievement for the lives of the students. “Technical High School 42 is number one in the world. Reading for pleasure is a fundamental skill that will positively impact your entire life.”

For his part, the Regional Delegate I of Education, Armando Rangel Hernández, stressed that this type of experience strengthens the life project of young people, mentioning that “we are not only celebrating first place; We celebrate that our students have the tools to aspire to a better life. Because reading is the door that allows them to grow and build a better future.”

The impact of the project transcended symbolic recognition; In addition to rewarding 2 outstanding students with computer equipment, the school received free licenses to access a platform, with reading resources in Spanish and English, expanding learning opportunities for the entire school community and strengthening the bilingual development of students.

This achievement confirms that promoting reading from a community, participatory, and student-centred perspective generates tangible benefits that can be replicated in other schools. The experience of Technical High School 42 shows that, when reading is committed to as a formative axis, not only learning is learning strengthened, but also the confidence, motivation, and aspirations of students.
