At the Punto México facilities of the Ministry of Tourism, Secretary Josefina Rodríguez Zamora inaugurated the tourism and crafts exhibition “Casa Sonora en Punto México,” a strategic initiative aimed at strengthening the state’s promotion both nationally and internationally.
During her remarks, Rodríguez Zamora emphasized that this initiative, developed in coordination with the Governor of Sonora, Alfonso Durazo Montaño, seeks to showcase Sonora as a diverse and competitive destination with a strong identity. This will be achieved through a high-visibility space that allows the public to experience its rich cultural, gastronomic, artisanal, and tourist offerings.
“The state government’s commitment to the tourism sector has propelled Sonora to the forefront of international tourism, highlighting its diverse experiences, including its rich gastronomy, attractive beaches, and sites of global renown,” she stated.
Accompanied by the state’s Secretary of Economy and Tourism, Roberto Gradillas Pineda, who emphasized that the exhibition represents an opportunity to promote local talent, traditions, and Sonora’s tourism offerings to a broad and diverse audience.
“Casa Sonora is a showcase to display the state’s cultural, gastronomic, and tourist richness, but also the warmth of its people, which is the hallmark that distinguishes Sonora and makes it an invaluable destination that deserves to be known throughout Mexico and the world,” commented Gradillas Pineda.
Sonora is experiencing sustained growth in its tourism sector, driven by the positioning of destinations like San Carlos, recognized as one of the most important emerging destinations in the country with national and international reach. This dynamism is reflected in a 9 percent increase in visitor arrivals compared to the previous year, exceeding 2.5 million tourists, as well as in a diversified offering that includes four Magical Towns, community-based tourism, and established destinations like Puerto Peñasco, a leading beach tourism destination for the U.S. market. The state complements its appeal with an annual calendar of 72 festivals, several of them international in scope.
Sonora is consolidating its world-class cultural and gastronomic offerings with key products such as the Seri New Year celebration, the promotion of beer and wine, and the emblematic Bacanora, an ancestral and artisanal spirit that celebrates the state’s traditions and holds a designation of origin from the State of Sonora.
The Casa Sonora initiative is part of a promotional policy aimed at showcasing the state’s “treasure”: its cultural heritage, traditions, history, gastronomy, and tourism products, with a distinctive value centered on the warmth and hospitality of its people.
The exhibition brings together artisanal expressions from indigenous communities, as well as emblematic products such as Bacanora, wine, and craft beer, which solidify Sonoran identity for diverse audiences.
“Sonora is in vogue, just like Mexico is in vogue, and everything it offers is impressive. It’s a destination that very few people truly know, but it has it all: extraordinary cuisine, beaches, destinations that are currently on the international radar, and new tourism experiences that have been built with vision and perseverance,” concluded the Secretary of Tourism.
The exhibition, “Casa Sonora en Punto México,” will be open to the public until February 24, Monday through Sunday, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., offering an opportunity to also explore the complete schedule of its 72 festivals, many of them internationally renowned, also available through Visit Mexico.
The opening ceremony was attended by Senator Lorenia Valles Sampedro and the following federal representatives: Jacobo Mendoza Ruiz, Manuel Baldenebro Arredondo, Alma Higuera Esquer, Anabel Acosta Islas, and Jesús Pujol Irastorza.
