So far, there is no indication from the Technical Health Committee to implement urgent measures, such as the mandatory use of face masks, in the face of the cases of measles detected in Querétaro, reported the governor of the state, Mauricio Kuri González.

The state governor recalled that in the state there is a record of 12 positive cases, all in stable condition, and specified that most of the infections originated outside the state.

Unlike other entities in the country where preventive measures have already been resumed, such as returning to the mandatory use of face masks, he pointed out that the disease remains contained in the entity and, in addition to medical monitoring, prevention actions such as sanitary fences and vaccination campaigns in public spaces have been reinforced.

The governor pointed out that any decision to tighten sanitary measures does not depend directly on the state executive, but on the technical health bodies.

“For any decision that has to be made, if stricter measures are taken, I do not make it, there is a technical council within the Ministry of Health, which are the ones that are for any issue of epidemic or anything that may put the people of Querétaro at risk, it depends 100 percent on the technical council of the Ministry of Health,” he specified.

He added that, so far, there is no formal recommendation to return to the mandatory use of face masks.

For its part, the State Ministry of Health (SESA) reported that, since the detection of the first case of measles in the country in February 2025, epidemiological surveillance, timely detection, and vaccination actions were immediately and permanently reinforced throughout the national territory, with special attention to Querétaro.

As a result of these strategies, two cases were recently identified in the municipality of Querétaro, corresponding to a 44-year-old woman and a 32-year-old man, bringing the state’s cumulative total during 2026 to 12 cases. Both patients have a stable clinical evolution, without complications, and remain under medical and epidemiological follow-up.

The state agency explained that epidemiological fences, the intentional search for cases, the identification of contacts, and the review of vaccination schedules remain active, in addition to the strengthening of coordination with the IMSS, ISSSTE, and the private medical sector.

Likewise, SESA reiterated that measles is a disease preventable through vaccination, so it urged the population under 49 years of age to review and complete their schemes in the 198 Health Centers of the state. He also recalled that, according to the World Health Organization, it is one of the most contagious diseases, capable of generating up to 18 secondary infections from a single case.
