The recent operation for alleged dispossession in Viñedos La Redonda not only placed the company at the center of the judicial agenda in Querétaro, but it also revived interest in the origin of one of the most representative wine houses in the state.
The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Querétaro reported on Tuesday that it carried out a search of the vineyard facilities as part of an investigation into property crimes related to illegal occupation.
The diligence resulted in the arrest of four people and the seizure of weapons, documentation, electronic devices, and cash.
The events occur in the context of an internal conflict that has paralyzed the operations of the vineyard since December 2025, when a dismissed former employee, identified as Claudio Bortoluz Muñoz, would have entered the facilities accompanied by people outside the company and allegedly armed, evicting legitimate personnel and blocking access to wineries, factory, and productive areas of the winery.
Viñedos La Redonda, with more than five decades of experience in wine production in Querétaro, had publicly denounced that this illegal takeover of its facilities completely interrupted its commercial and tourist activity, affecting the production chain and hundreds of families that depend on the operation of the wine complex.
The ministerial intervention responds to these complaints and to the investigation file initiated by the state authorities, with the aim of restoring control of the property and demarcating responsibilities.
In the midst of the legal process, a key question arises: who founded La Redonda Querétaro and what is its history?
Who was the founder of Viñedos La Redonda?
According to information published by the company itself, the founder of Viñedos La Redonda was Don Vittorio Giaginto Bortoluz Perencin, an agricultural expert with a specialty in viticulture and an oenologist graduated from the School of Conegliano, in Italy.
According to the historical review of Querétaro Travel, Vittorio arrived in Mexico, hired by Productos Vinícolas de Delicias, and developed vines in Chihuahua and Coahuila until the end of 1951.
Later, in the Valley of San Juan del Río, he found lands with characteristics similar to the Mediterranean belt, which marked his link with the Querétaro region.
In 1975, he planted his first vineyard in Querétaro, giving rise to La Redonda, where he cultivated wine varieties that adapted to the Querétaro region.
The evolution of the vineyard in Querétaro
The company divides its history into three stages. In the first, it was dedicated to the production and sale of grapes used by regional brands.
In the second stage, which began in 2003, it launched its own labels under three lines: La Redonda (table wines), Orlandi (aged), and Sierra Gorda (high-end).
The third stage, described by the company as a consolidation phase, maintains the commitment to produce quality Mexican wine.
What happened at Viñedos La Redonda?
According to company reports, the conflict was triggered after the legal dismissal of Bortoluz Muñoz on December 8, 2025, who, seven days later, would have entered the vineyard with the support of third parties to take over the facilities.
Since then, theoperation of Viñedos La Redonda has been interrupted and has caused the suspension of tourist functions, wine production, and commercial activities linked to the business.
In various statements, the winery highlighted that the facilities have registered fires and the unauthorized use of equipment and infrastructure, which aggravates the internal crisis and exposes additional risks to goods and the safety of the productive environment.
