The marketing and use of vaping came formally under the scope and direct action of the federal authorities in Cancun, as part of the national strategy to curb the distribution of these electronic devices designed as cigarette simulators, whose manufacture, mainly of Asian origin has invaded markets to globally despite the health risks they pose.
Agents of the Criminal Investigation Agency (AIC), assigned to the General Prosecutor’s Office of the Republic (FGR), made the withdrawal and possible confiscation of vapes during a diligence carried out this Monday morning in a home located in the supermanzana 31, on Cobá Avenue, almost corner with Kabah, in the northern area of Quintana Roo, inside the Cancun tourist pole.
The federal action derives from guidelines issued by the Health Secretary, in coordination with authorities of the three government orders, in the face of the increase in the presence and consumption of these electronic devices, considered harmful products to consumers, and without health permission for sale in the country.
The operation was led by FGR personnel, with the support of experts and specialized agents, who placed seals of closure on the building where vaping products were allegedly stored and marketed, as part of the relevant legal procedure.
According to the initial investigations, the diligence would be related to compliance with the General Law for Tobacco Control and provisions issued by the Federal Commission for the Protection against Health Risks (Cofepris), which classify these devices as a public health risk.
Federal authorities reported investigations are ongoing to determine the legal status of insured products, as well as possible administrative or criminal liability of those involved in their distribution and sale.
