Young mountaineers from Nuevo Laredo conquer Pico de Orizaba
On Sunday, February 8th, at 12:30 a.m., they began their ascent to the summit, facing challenges such as extreme cold, the mountain’s steep incline, lack of oxygen, occasional altitude sickness, and the considerable effort of climbing the Jamapa Glacier, the last significant remnant of ice on the upper volcanic peak.
Their journey took a total of 11 hours, including 7 hours of climbing and 4 hours of descent. They reached the summit of Pico de Orizaba at approximately 7:30 a.m., enjoying the sunrise, a breathtaking panoramic view, and the satisfaction of having achieved their goal.
It is worth noting that the young climbers prepared diligently beforehand for this expedition, with proper nutrition, physical conditioning, and appropriate equipment, in addition to their regular daily activities.
Many climbers started the journey, but few reached the summit, and with great pride the young people from Nuevo Laredo reached their goal, a great experience that forges their character of resistance and perseverance.
