Sonora: 440 minors were reported missing during 2025

Over the past decade, 1,136 minors have been reported missing in the state of Sonora, 440 of them in 2025.

The New Generation Sonora Foundation indicated that, according to data from the National Registry of Missing and Unlocated Persons (RNPDNO), 37 percent of these minors have not been found.

The most significant finding is that 2025 was a historic year, with a surge that necessitates redoubled efforts to prevent, respond quickly to, and protect children and adolescents within their immediate environments. This trend is not due to a single factor: it is related to risks at home, online, and in the social environment that increase their exposure.

“When a child disappears, it is not an isolated incident: it is a warning sign of failures in protection, prevention, family support, and institutional response. Every minute counts, and immediate action can make all the difference,” stated Michelle Lucero, director of the New Generation Sonora Foundation.

According to specialists consulted by the Foundation, three factors contribute to the disappearance of minors: family conflicts marked by violence or breakdowns; recruitment through social media via false job offers or relationships built on trust; and vulnerable conditions such as poverty, forced displacement, or lack of support networks.

These scenarios increase the risk of serious crimes, including human trafficking and sexual exploitation,” notes the FNG Sonora.

“The New Generation Sonora Foundation reiterates that protecting children and adolescents cannot be delayed. Preventing disappearances is a shared responsibility that requires useful information, verifiable actions, and ongoing coordination to guarantee safe environments where they can grow up with dignity and freedom.”
