Snowfall left mountain roads impassable in Durango

It was Héctor Herrera Núñez, a local deputy for the National Regeneration Movement (Morena), who reported the above and also stated that the low temperatures and snow accumulation further complicated the conditions of rural roads.

“The roads are in very bad condition. The snowfall has worsened the situation; sometimes it’s complicated, and the costs of transporting goods increase significantly. But all the mayors are looking at ways to move forward and help with the road issue.”

Herrera Núñez explained that he held a meeting with the head of the State Secretariat of Public Works, Ana Rosa Hernández, to coordinate actions that will support the municipalities in rehabilitating damaged sections, especially in the Las Quebradas region, where significant logging activity is concentrated and the roads are severely deteriorated.

“We met to discuss how we could help the mayors repair the roads, especially in Las Quebradas and the area between Coyotes and San Miguel de Cruces, where the highway is in very poor condition. There is good communication with the State and Federal Governments to determine where the repairs will begin,” he stated.

The congressman added that the work is expected to begin as soon as possible, not only on federal highways but also on state highways that haven’t received major maintenance for years.

Finally, he clarified that no complaints of extortion have been received from loggers, although he acknowledged that they face numerous difficulties due to the poor condition of the roads and adverse weather conditions.
