The Veracruz Real Estate Cartel case is frozen.

2

We’re told that a much larger scandal has erupted in Veracruz, where a suspected real estate cartel has been operating for the past couple of months, allegedly dispossessing dozens of people of their properties. We’re told that cases are surfacing everywhere, with the alleged involvement of state officials, notaries, and lawyers. Most of these incidents occurred during the administration of Cuitláhuac García Jiménez, a member of the Morena party. But the strange thing is that from 2019 to 2024, there were complaints and supposedly open investigations against former public servants, which suspiciously seemed to have been shelved. This has led many to wonder: who gave the order to close the cases and protect the criminals?

The mayor of Los Cabos, Christian Agúndez Gómez (PT), was reportedly the one whose dirty laundry was aired in Baja California Sur. He’s being asked to provide a full accounting for a pedestrian bridge that never materialized in one of the most dangerous areas of Cabo San Lucas, where pedestrian accidents are frequent. We’re told the case has been shelved for two years, ever since the construction of a store where the risks were identified. Although the company paid a 13 million peso bond to ensure the city council carried out the work, nothing has been done. When confronted with the demands, Mr. Agúndez responded that “they haven’t finalized the project yet” because “they want something aesthetically pleasing and attractive.” How nice!

From Guanajuato, we hear that the mayor of Celaya, Juan Miguel Ramírez Sánchez (Morena), has taken a liking to governing and has already “raised his hand” to seek reelection. They remind us that, in the last election, the Morena party candidate Gisela Gaytán Gutiérrez was assassinated, which is why Juan Miguel stepped in as an “emergency candidate.” Now he’s being very obsequious, seeking the public’s favor, and he’s very modest, claiming that it will depend on how people evaluate him and that he’s in favor of respecting the political timeline. But many see him as “way ahead of the starting line” and with the ever-present concern of insecurity. Imagine that!
