The Secretary of Tourism for Tabasco, Katia Ornelas Gil, stated that they are closely monitoring the measles situation. If the Ministry of Health recommends the use of face masks, it would not be ruled out during the events of the 2026 Tabasco Fair.
“We are coordinating with all the relevant agencies, and in this case, health is part of that coordination we maintain, not only with preventative measures like this issue, which we certainly have to address, such as the importance of vaccination, to combat this epidemic that is occurring and which we still have time to contain,” she said. She added that there will be information booths during the fair: “If the recommendation is to wear face masks, we will implement that recommendation.”
On another note, the official announced a project to revitalize the Agua Blanca tourist center: “There is an important issue with a levee; the assessment has been completed and submitted to the relevant agencies. We are working on a business model that will allow us to rehabilitate Agua Blanca.”
He explained that they will be working on building bamboo cabins: “We want to make three prototype cabin designs here in Agua Blanca and review the pool, and have a dining area or a restaurant.”
Finally, he said that there is still no project for the Palenque de Gallos (cockfighting arena) inside Parque Tabasco, nor has the possibility of any group of businesspeople operating it been opened up.
He recalled that the businesses that presented shows last year at the Palenque didn’t do very well, since it’s difficult to compete against free shows.
He mentioned that, in the specific case of the 2026 Tabasco Fair, all the shows will be free for the people of Tabasco.
