The reactivation of passenger rail service in San Luis Potosí will generate an increase in demand for urban public transportation and complementary services in the metropolitan area and other points in the state that will be linked by the rail system. This will necessitate expanding the number of concessions in various modes of transportation.

In response, the head of the Ministry of Communications and Transportation, Araceli Martínez Acosta, announced that a technical assessment will be prepared this year, in coordination with the Autonomous University of San Luis Potosí. This assessment will determine how many new concessions will need to be issued starting in 2027.

She explained that the analysis will consider urban transport, taxis, and freight services, with the aim of anticipating the impact of the rail project on mobility in the state and preparing for interconnectivity with the mass transit system.

The state official noted that the federal government will begin construction of the Querétaro–San Luis line in the second half of 2026, “a project that will transport passengers and goods, making it necessary to modernize transportation infrastructure to meet the increased flow of people and supplies.”

She specified that, in parallel, her department is working on reconfiguring conventional transportation routes to reduce long journeys and improve service frequencies.

She clarified that the awarding of concessions will continue through open and transparent processes, with the goal of consolidating a metropolitan system where diverse modes of transportation coexist.

Finally, Martínez Acosta indicated that the planning aims to anticipate the growth in operations resulting from the passenger train, in order to guarantee sufficient coverage and the orderly operation of public transportation in the state.
