Upon learning of the progress on various railway projects, Mayor Claudia Sheinbaum announced that the train from Mexico City to the Felipe Ángeles International Airport will begin operations before Easter. She also stated that the Mexico City-Pachuca and Mexico City-Querétaro railway projects will be completed in 2027.
For his part, General Ricardo Vallejo, commander of the Felipe Ángeles Engineering Group of the National Defense Secretariat, reported that the construction of freight rail lines along the Maya Train route is 25 percent complete. He asserted that freight operations are projected to begin on some sections of this route by the end of 2026.
During the presidential press conference, Vallejo also reported that the Mexico City-Pachuca passenger train project, which has a total length of 57.6 kilometers, is 21 percent complete with electrified double track. It is estimated that this project, which will connect with the existing freight rail line in some sections totaling 27 kilometers, will be completed by the first half of next year.
Regarding the project from Mexico City to Querétaro, Vallejo indicated that this route comprises 232 kilometers with a 128-kilometer connection to the freight rail line.
He mentioned that physical progress in this case is at ten percent, emphasizing that 28 kilometers of elevated viaduct will be built in some urban areas. He specified that the project includes the construction of six stations.
Vallejo said that the military engineering division is already working on a second phase of railway projects that will encompass 1,400 kilometers and include the Irapuato-Guadalajara, Querétaro-San Luis Potosí, Saltillo-Nuevo Laredo, and Mazatlán-Los Mochis routes.
For his part, the head of the Railway Transport Regulatory Agency, Andrés Lajous, reported that since the start of operations on February 2nd of the El Insurgente Train, which runs from Mexico City to Toluca, 850,000 people have been transported, highlighting that this Sunday the maximum number of users was reached.
